Default Split Air-Con (LG Art Cool)

Currently we have a 7 yr old Daikin Split system that lasted about 5 mins after we moved into the house before the compressor died. The Daikin air con guy said not worth fixing and would recommend replacing everything. Turns out previous owners/tenants never maintained it (cleaned filters etc)

So the option is to maybe get a Daikin or one of the LG Art Cools The long rectangle , not the square one).

Has anyone had any experience with the LG gear and specifically the Art cool units, we are getting the biggest one (about 7 kws roughly). It does appear we might be paying a little more for the look but I think they look so much better than normal split head units.

Or should I just play it safe and get another Daikin?

Actually, the latest choice magazines that I have received have not been able to assess any of the LG units as all that were delivered for testing were DOA (and that was 3 different units) or not performing after setup.

I personally don't favour the LG units at all and under protest have installed a few for friends and family members. To be honest, on many call outs in which customers request a replacement, I would state that 80% have been LG units onto another brand. They were not the artcool series though, but they were recent LG models up to and including the 7kW sizes.

My personal opinion is stick with the brands that have built their reputations on producing high quality systems through efficiency, performance and reliability. Not on looks. Lg have great marketing gurus and great aesthetic designers for their air conditioning products, if only they could compliment them with quality systems. Or if only the other brands would take a leaf out of their design book. In all honesty though, the newer systems from Daikin and Panasonic especially look quite attractive and both get my thumbs up. They arn't the cheapest on the market by far but they do have the quality and follow up service behind them.
