Default What's this box called on top of an electric motor.

Wondering does anyone know what the technical name is for the black box on top of this electric motor.

While I was welding up a frame for an overhead winch the motor took a tumble and has buggered the box and it needs replacing and no not by myself.

I'd also like a 20 foot lead going from the motor to a hand controller for when down in the bottom of mine shaft.

It's a junction or terminal box. They are usually motor brand specific but I have never seen one that large so I think that it is an after market modification.

Your best bet is to see if there is a brand and model number somewhere on it. If not then leave it up to the sparky to replace.

That box houses 2 capacitors (Run and start capacitors) and the terminal block connectors.

I have replaced several damaged ones of these with ABS boxes from Jaycar. You will have to drill your own holes but its no big deal.
