    Default Heat Proofing Paint?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there an additive you get to make paint heat resistant?
I've made a fire drum using two truck brake drums (at 52.2kg each they won't go anywhere) and I would love to paint the thing as a minion.
But the best price I can find for heat proof paint is $18 a can and I'd need five colours to do a minion.
    Cheers

You are probably wasting your time with hose spray cans of heat resistant paint as they are only good for ~250º and I can tell you many parts of a fire drum will get a lot hotter than that.
Pot belly black is good for about 300ºC but it just chars and stays black if it goes hotter than that.

I doubt there is any way to heat proof any regular plaint especially plastic paint, but also regular oil based paint. The base chemicals that are used in these paints are not fire proof and will in fact burn. so adding a fire retardant to them would be like adding water to petrol and hoping the petrol doesn't burn. Fireproof paint start out with a different base and are heated or fire to cure in a different form than regular paint.

The only colors that I am aware of that will take heat (not necessarily heat proof) are black and silver. Look at railway steam engine smoke boxes and that will give you a clue as to what will stand a lot of heat.

Good luck with a color like yellow.
