Default Best method to fill smooth knot holes in pine panel internal walls prior to painting?

    Hi All,

I've decided to paint the pine panel walls inside our house to give it a freshen up. Going to paint it rather than pull it all down and replace with plaster just to keep some costs down.

Trouble is some of the paneling has smooth knot holes and other imperfections that really need to be filled in properly so the wall (once painted) doesn't have heaps of black spots.
What's the best method to fill in smooth knot holes that are sometimes the size of a 10c coin?
Do I use epoxy fibreglass filler and build it up in layers?

Looking forward to hearing peoples ideas and thoughts.

    Cheers!!

Regular top coat plaster filler for little cracks, Builders Bog or auto body filler for the big stuff.

My experience is that dark knots will bleed through top coat paints to spoil the finish. I would use something like a forstner bit to excavate the area around each knot and then use Builders Bog to fill.

My father used to swear by a coat of shellac to act as a barrier to the knot's potential for resin staining
