We want to decorate our bedroom which currently has what looks like a cream acrylic which has been painted over a pinkish gloss which I think may be enamel. The resulty has been that any even slight knock on the wall exposes a pink gash. You can scrape the cream acylic off with your finger nail without too much trouble.

I've had a few folks tell me that I can just put a sealer over the top and paint on that and 'she'll be right' which is probably correct if you only need it to be right untill the van is packed and you're driving away with the cash.

My choices appear to be;

Getting a sander of some description and trying to take the top layer of acrylic off and providing a key into the gloss - but I'm expecting that I'll need to change a clogged sheet every 2ft of vj so it'll be a nightmare.

Doing my best with a paint scraper then sanding and painting after that.

Any suggestions - particularly on an appropriate sanding discs or techniques would be appreciated.

I have also been told about some undercoat / additive that is specifically for use on enamels and will enable us to get a key without having to sand the enamel off (and reveal potential lead paint beneath).

Anyone know anything about such a product and if it works?

As usual all advice is very gratefully recieved.

Cheers

Sam
