Well hope some of you helpful people can help me out.

I recently tried painting my doors with Dulux oil based Super Enamel high gloss from memory (unfortunately the label is partially obscured by paint). After applying it I'm not at all happy with the finish quite frankly. Yes I could of improved some sections but overall even the perfect parts aren't to my satisfaction. Dulux's reputation in my mind has taken a bit of a hit so I'm looking for alternatives that are well priced. I'm thinking dulux is just well marketed..

Initially I though high gloss was the way to go but some people have said satin gloss is better as it hides imperfections better. To be honest the dulux paint didn't feel like high gloss anyway despite the fact that the label stated it was.

Just some questions/points..

1) I've sanded (lightly) the oil enamel high gloss paint job in prep for the new paint. Will there be any problems if I go acrylic for eg?

2) Iniitally I was going to go with white but I would like to look at alternative paint schemes for doors and trims to kind of give me a break for the standard white color. If anyone has any good sites that could give me schemes where I can set walls. doors, trim various colours I'd appreciate knowing about it.

3) I'm over oil paint. Cleanup is a bitch and I essentially have to throw away the roller after each job. It also takes too long to dry. Oil is off the suggestion list no matter how hard wearing it is..

4) Price. I'm not super rich so I'm looking for a reasonably priced paint so please keep that in mind when recommending. Anyone have any suggestions as to brands better than dulux?

5) Paint must be purchaseable in Sydney region.

6) Paint will be applied with a foam roller. I tried a low napf alternative but didn't really like it and not a fan of the brush. Going to go with foam this time round.

7) Any other finishes I should consider apart from high gloss/satin gloss?

8) What other types of paint apart from oil are good for doors which need a bit of hard wearing paint?

9) Pefer it not to yellow over time. Just another reason oil is off the agenda. Something I didn't think about when starting the 1st attempt.

Appreciate any help and or guidance.

This time round I'm doing my homework and I'll be damned if I sand the doors again!

Cheers
M
