It does look a lot like Olive to me too.
Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Bark doesn’t look like Olive, I’d say it’s Poplar going on the colour of the timber

Hi Ted , no smell to it ....
Hi Cliff , Not sure , but no smell ....I don, t think it is olive cos the blank was 300mm wide
Hi Acco , yeah , it could be , there was no obvious aroma , it was quite soft and easy to turn , it has a bit of burl and some nice figureCheers smiife

The bark and grain could be one of the Pittosporum family. Can't say which one, as there're quite a few species and variations between.
Many years ago my mum had a big old ree felled, on which I practised my microwaving drying techniques. The side grain and bark look very similar, but I cannot comment on the end-grain... as I microwaved before turning and something about my mw technique definitely changed the grain colour to chocolate and vanilla swirls.
(I believe I posted pics of before and after to a thread somewhere in the turning forums, but that would've been before the Great Image Loss. )
