    I saw one a little while back about NZ swamp kauri @ 50,002 yo. Turner said it was 50,000yo two years ago when his family gave it to him!

    Two things about Bog Oak.

    1. It's a term not a definitive identification. In all actuality it could be any wood that has lain in the peat bog for 2000+ years. I've even had what I think I identified as Yew, now that was different.

    2. It splits like crazy as it dries. Good for small items, pens, bottle stoppers and a few other trinkets maybe even a pot lid but don't expect a big bit to become a large hollowform or similar.

    However it does turn quite well but gritty dust when sanding.
