Default Advice on Teknatool wood lathe

    Hi Folks,

I came across your forum after doing a search. Apologies for not contributing anything to the forums before asking for help (to be honest I know very little about woodwork or woodturning!).

Anyway, an elderly relative of mine has a lathe that he is no longer able use and we need to get rid of it. I was wondering what value something like this should be sold for. It's about 10years old I believe but hasn't been used much.

    Teknatool Nova 3000
    -8 speed range
    -SuperNova geared chuck
    and there's about 50 chisels/lathe tools

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Mick

i recently baught a teknatool 1500 woodlathe second hand. about 10 years old hardly ever used, 8 speed.

    paid $800

also got 12 henry taylor chisels, nova 50mm scroll chuck, drive center, drill chuck, faceplate, and pen mandrel, pen kits and asorted sandpaper.

    for an extra $200.

this is a good guide for you.

In the meantime, here is one that sold yesterday on Ebay for $1200.

But, as said above, some pictures will help people form a more informed opinion.

$1200 for that piece you got to be joking. Brand new is worth $1749 from Carrols so why would you pay $1200 for that ancient thing.
That my opinion. Sorry if this offends you

    Mick,

On the face of it, it sounds good. But some pics would be appreciated. Teknatool build fine lathes, age is not a serious issue especially if its had little use. The bonus is the chuck and tools especially if they are all HSS.

    go for it!

i dont think $1200 is unreasonable if the tools, chuck and lathe are in good conditions.

if the tools are of good quality the price could go up even further but if they're crappy CS stuff that you buy off ebay then the price may not be as high.

Thanks a lot for all of your responses. Think I have got a ballpark idea now at least... around $1000 mark or so.

Below is a pic of the lathe, which looks similar to the one one ebay I think? There is also a spare chuck which looks the same as the one on the lathe only with different size jaws. Also a pic of some of the tools.

So when is it going on the market?

I think there will be a lot of interest here.

I have had the same model (with bed extension), for 4 years, and have enjoyed using it.

I bought on a run out special, for around $1500, with Supernova chuck (the old model) thrown in.

Would be a bargain for $1000.00 as there are at least 50 tools + chuck with it.

It sounds like 2 nova chucks so a 1000 would be super bargain if even some of the tools are high speed as well , good luck with it Put it up for best offer over a given time and see what comes up regards Wally
