    Default Turning Albizia

Has anyone had experience turning any of the Albizia species? We have an Albizia tree, possibly an Albizia lebbeck which needs to come down and I've been told it's related to Red Siris/Mackay cedar which I know has quite irritating dust to the respiratory system. I was just wondering if Albizia lebbeck has the same irritating dust.
    Thanks

I believe one of the common names for Albizia lebbeck, is "womans tongue". I made a small box from a smallish speciman, without any major issues. Flat work does not generate as much dust as does turning. There were characteristics similar to Mackay cedar (albizia toona) e.g. light sneezing. The wood was a nice yellow colour that turned a light brownish colour as it dried and easy to work.

It's known as Indian Siris / East Indian Walnut and Raintree though A. saman is considered to be the "Raintree." Also considered to be an environmental weed in most parts of QLD.

Borers love the sap wood on all Albizias, so be prepared to spray it as soon as possible.

Good point Mobyturns - I've noted that about the borers.
