Gooday weisyboy,
Some American timbers are awsome; can you provide other species you will stock and include blank sizes and pricing.
Thanks, Evan

Very nice timber Carl, but I'd be checking with AQIS first if you haven't done so yet, as it is a timber that has been affected by a beetle and may not be allowed in the country
Cheers

The ambrosia maple looks a lot like what we call spalted maple or spalted birch. It is about 90% of what I work with because in Eastern Canada it is readily available , and no two pieces are ever the same. When certain species of birch and maple get old thay start to decay inside (a lot like people) and the fungus causes them to have brown, black, pink, red, yellow, etc. coloration. The wood is usually softer than regular hardwood.
HOWEVER:I stress that it LOOKS like the wood in your picture. In fact they might be two entirely different animals.

Ambrosia Maple Bowl
I've turned one piece of it... on Old Griz... It's beautiful wood, and is specifically infested with the ambrosia beetle (larva). It bores into the tree, and if you look closely you can see the tiny little holes in this bowl (Pics 2 & 3) little black spots.
The moisture getting into the wood through those holes and something from the larva, causes the stains.
Don't know if the authorities will let it into the country. But it would be worth it if they will!!Al
Some minds are like concrete thoroughly mixed up and permanently set.

I got a piece in from the US with a sample swap I was doing and it had to be irradiated at my expense - could make it VERY expensive for you!

You might check out if it has been kiln dried, and in that case may be fine.
