    Default An ancient craft

Just back from a week's rubber necking in Sydney.

The National Maritime Museum has a special exhibition of Viking artefacts.

Among the textiles and silver work are some pieces of woodcraft, and among those is a beautiful piece of turning.

A bowl of ash, natural edge, small and thin, it's now stained grey. Would have been turned on a pole lathe.
    Cheers, Ern

    Hey Ern,

That Viking display wood have been great to see, I saw the the items from Henry VIII's Mary Rose and replica bowls made by Robin Wood, one of a few pole turners in England. Weren't allowed to take photos was it the same for the Viking display or were you able to get a picture.

    Cheers
    Darren

    Hey Darren,

Not sure about the rules re photos there. Didn't have the camera with me at the time in any case, and it would have been hard to shoot through the glass case with flash.
    Cheers, Ern
