I had a great day.
Got to try threaded boxes.
Got to make a threader first.
And I'm real happy with my CA finish lesson, that was fantastic.
Got a good chat and feed.
Thanks to all.

'Twas good day indeed, although I'm still disappointed there weren't any door-prizes! The box with Jim's seg-work inlay would've done nicely...
It was good to catch up with the familiar faces and meet a few new 'uns, I also suspect that SWMBO will want to attend the next few get-togethers as well; she had a blast.
I'm soooo glad we managed to make it!

I had some dead finish for Jim but I didn't get it to him in time, it is great stuff for threaded boxes.

Another great day, well worth the drive over to Tooraddin. Met Jim who was kind enough to help me start on what no doubt be a long learning curve to master thread cutting.
Also DJ showed me how to apply the CA finish to pens. Just a question when Michelle tried it at home the CA started to go whitish/cloudy. May be our accelerator is not suitable so what is the best accelerator for this.
So another great day and thanks to GJ for hosting.
Peter.

What type of CA and Accelerator did she use?
Meduim and thick CA could be the cause or if it was a pump action Accelerator, then that would most likely be the problem.
This is the one I use CWS Store - Hot Stuff QA-6 NCF Quick Accelerator | Carroll's Woodcraft SuppliesCheers

I've had the accelerator do that with my pump action one, when I'm too close or too much.
Now just for info, I've been told that Standard Glen 20 is the same stuff, But I have tried it and also got the white finish. But you may want to give it a try if you have some.
Or don't use and and just wait the 2 mins per coat until its dried, Or breathe on it and warmth and humidity will set it off.

The main differences between the pump and aerosol can is that the pump action comes out as droplets and I suspect the Glen 20 does to a degree as well.
One thing I noticed today even after I said it, was that just about everyone was spraying the accelarator right up close which is a no no. It needs to be sprayed from a good foot away, which is good as it is a fine mist by the time it hits the blank.Cheers

Hmm! I look pretty qwacky with those chemist glasses on. Really must go and get proper ones.
Had a great day. Got a few threads chased. Will have to work out how to get them to fit together in the privacy of my own shed. Need to find some wood to wreck.anne-maria.

Another great get-together is over and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. A big thank you to Jim for his demo on thread turning, it was delivered with great humour and at the same time very informative. You do yourself a great diservice Jim by calling yourself "just an old carpenter". You are a very talented craftsman who takes great pride in his work and one who is prepared to share his knowledge unselfishly. Thanks also to DJ for his very informative demo on applying CA to pens. Last, but not least, thanks to Peter for sharing his experiences with different finishes. These get-togethers are a sucess as a result of the input of all the attendees, both those demonstrating and those there to observe as we all come away with a renewed enthusiam for our chosen hobby.
Thank you all for making this such a great day .To grow old is inevitable.... To grow up is optional
