    Default another one

This time is Eucalpytus burl, shown here with two coats of DO awaiting the final coats of WOP satin. Dia is around 7" x 5"
This is part of the haul I got from Max and it turned out better than I expected.

    Default WIP spiral carving

here we go the WIP of the spiral effect.

Pretty straight forward, used the Woodfast indexing set up 24 positions, scribed each arc with a compass and pencil. Cut the basic outline with a Dremel and reciprocating chisel attachment.
Because the spirals are essentially flat so I could finish them off with a rasp and file etc. This makes it easier than most, but they do demand the edges remain clean and crisp plus follow the arc.

You say it's straight forward but to some one that has not done this before it means something to think about.

That looks brilliant. I thought when I first saw it how good it looked, and it must have been done with a Dean Malcolm type router spiral jiggy thing, but then I saw your next post, WOW
    Thanks for posting

Nice work Hughie, the burr really gives the carving a wonderful texture and effect.

And thanks for the WiP pictures this time.
