    Default Ashe vase with wedges

Today l show you how i made a Vase out of ash tree wood

The log was 164 KG at the beginnig

The hollowing was quite hard when i got closer to the core wood, the tool was jumping a lot

il use several wooden wedges the stop the big crack and in the core wood to avoid the cracks there as well

I sanded it up to 500 grit, then i used woodturner oil for the first finish to dry it much slower

    High: 51cm
    Diameter: 46cm
    Thickness: 10mm

    hope you enjoy it

I enjoyed watching your video. Your use of the term 'wedge' had me intrigued, I call these 'bow ties', they are quite decorative and certainly do the job of saving a chunk of wood from the firewood pile. When you were doing the hollowing, I thought the timber resembled some sort of olive.

Also called a butterfly joint, dovetail key, Dutchman joint, or Nakashima joint

George Nakashima is the best known exponent of it.

Saw these nice examples at the Georg Jensen gallery in Copenhagen not so long ago.

    Stay sharp and stay safe!
