Default A Bit of Sunday Arvo fun . . .

I was given this blank by a fellow member, whom will remain nameless. He mentioned that he wasn't game to turn the blank, due to the faults in the blank. I had a look and thought it might be possible and said so, thus I was given the blank.

The faults on the top necessitated use of a 200mm (8") faceplate and #12 50mm (2") screws. One of the screws failed to secure, thus the 75mm screw.

Turning the outside was good, I had pre honed 5 chisels and used all 5 in 10 minutes.

After a break and another honing session, I turned the blank around. 3 chisels for about 5 minutes work. Bark inclusions, punky rot and blinking hard bits played havoc with the edges. I relented and used my Oland tools to hollow out and scrapers to clean up.

I think that effort can be safely described as dogged perseverance.

    Good end result as well.
