    Default Blackwood Platter

A couple of weeks ago I asked you all what sort of finish I should apply to a Blackwood platter I was working on. Thanks for all your advice however in the end I decided to go with Nitrocellulose Lacquer. As suggested, the grain 'popped' spectacularly. I decided to keep this platter very simple, I wanted the timber to do the talking. It's 300mm in diameter, 25mm deep and 6mm thick at the edge/rim.

So here it is and I'm very pleased with the end result. Sanded to 400g, friction polished and finally 2 coats of nitrocellulose lacquer buffed with 0000 steel wool in-between and after.

    Comments and critiques welcomed.

Well done Scott, the platter looks very elegant. It would be a nice mothers day present but it is fathers day and you can keep it for youself.

You should see the grain in person Art, it was very difficult to get a picture to justify it. Anyway thanks to everyone for their kind comments, I enjoyed turning the platter.

That'll have to go straight to the pool room.

It's lovely. Shame the pictures aren't bigger.

That is a lovely piece of timber Scott. An elegant shape, and very well turned.

Now that is quite some spectacular grain.

Should also add well done on the platter.
