    Default bowl corer

Hi all on this sacred day.

I have some Huon Pine on the way (hopefully) and want to make the most of it by coring out the inner but I don't have a corer!
Can anyone suggest a way of doing this to make the most of the chunk of HP?
Coring systems are rather expensive and I cant really justify the expense as I wouldn't use it much.

    Thanks

Sorry, I'm too far away to help.

The Woodcraft Guild of ACT might have one.

Has anyone used the McNaughton coring system? It's reasonably priced! Any good?

Yes, I have and use it. Has a steeper initial learning curve but is more versatile than the Woodcut, IME. I prefer it over the Woodcut, which I have also owned.

Haven't used the Oneway, so can't comment on it.

I decided to give McNaughton a go!
Unfortunately the column is too wide for my banjo, even my older ones.
It's only a mm or 2 out so I doubt they sell one just that little bit smaller but i've asked

The Mcnaughton comes with a 25mm post or you can specify which size you want. Link

As long as your lathe has the low speed torque and you take it easy, allow the tool to do the work and don't try to be greedy it'll be fine. Practice on a few pieces before you have a go at the Huon.

Time to get the Verniers out to take some precise measurements... 1" is 25.4mm, not 25mm. A true 1" column won't fit into a 25mm bore!

Anyway, far better to be oversized than under... it's very easy to put the detachable column in a metal lathe and take half a mm off...

I've emailed Kelton but no reply yet but yes I doubt they will have such a variety of sizes especially only a mmm or 2 different.
I checked that Link thanks Pat but nothing there.
I must have unusual sized banjo's.
Any idea who would sell what would have to be a cheap banjo that would fit!!!?
I don't have access to a metal lathe, I may have to grind, eek

Kelton still hasn't bothered to reply so they're dead to me!
Good news though..............I put it on my lathe and got to it with coarse very strong sandpaper and it did the trick
