    A 12 volt air pump like those used for inflating air beds might do.

    Cooky decided to pump air from 'outside' for his clean air solution. In my case I wanted to recycle the air in my workshop...warming up my workshop up here near Mt Lofty in the Adelaide Hills is enough of a challenge during our long winters without constantly pulling in cold air. The reverse applied this summer during our recent record heat wave.

    My solution was to hook a domestic air filter unit (an earlier model Sunbeam was one of the few available at the time) to my facemask via a flexible medical quality tube which I purchased from an asthma organisation. I have used this set up for quite a few years now and it works well for me.

    Wot Sean said.

    Seem to recall someone posting pics of their home-made rig on the web; it used a hair dryer sucking air from outside IIRC.

    You'd prob want a mesh filter at the inlet ;-}

    What Echidna said - K-Mart have both battery 4x D and 12 volt versions, so almost any camping store will have electric air bed inflators - just take a bit of hose & check that the outlet from the fan is close enough to tape - the nozzles are removeable.
