bulk keyrings
I've decided that I love keyrings. Zoe already collects them, so I thought it would be a good way for me to keep track of timbers I've cut.
I'm going to make a huge frame, stick a piece of wood in it, screw in some keyring holder hooks, and put a keyring of each timber, with the name of the timber written underneath.
Then if I get broke (er) I can sell them.
At the moment the best I can find is 5 for $16. I want to buy by the 50's - 100 maybe. Any idea where I can get them bulk for less cost then that?
At the moment I'm making a bowl for Zoe's potato chips

You can always ask one of our local vendors such as Jim Carroll and see if he's willing to work out a bulk deal for you.
Jim's a nice bloke and bends over backwards to help when he can...

There's another place - http://www.penkits.com.cn/showmemo.asp?pid=559
You need to register and have your account approved (doesn't take long) and apparently the freight can be pricey. I just had a look and the gold keyring kits are $US0.68 each for 100. Allowing for freight and exchange rates, it's probably going to be in the order of $140-ish, which is not too bad per kit.
These are Rizheng though, not Dayacom or Berea, but with a keyring kit probably isn't that much of a difference.
I have never ordered from this site though, so I really don't know what the experience will be like. Maybe someone else who has done so can comment.

frugality
Unless you need the brass look, you could order just the key "rings" from a craft supply store. Our local stores here in Maine sell packages of 50 or 100 for less than $5. They probably also come in brass. I just drill a hole before turning. With a simple jig, you could do it afterwards on a drill press. That way I can make many for next to nothing and just hand them out to people as thank yous.
Hope this idea helps.

How do you attach the ring to the wood?

Key ring hardware at a sensible price
Hi Eliza,
Try Peter Vince of Hobart for your key ring blanks. He's a fraction of the price you quote for his products which are identical to those of the Catalogue folk. His contact is
Ph 03 62446132, Mob 0408139345, Fax 03 62446321. He does a huge amount of courier delivery business across the nation so that isn't a problem
Ask him to mail you a catalogue. He doesn't have it electronically at present. If he asks you how you got on to him just tell him a bloke from Tinderbox ( an outer suburb of Hobart) gave you the contact.
His minimum order is $50 but that usually isn't a problem
Cheers Old Pete

I attach the rings as though the hole were a key.
