Default Burl & Turning Blank Suppliers

Hello can anyone help me with a supplier for Burl turning blanks.

    I am in Victoria.

    I have tried:

    1. Shiver Me Timbers who don't carry anything like this.
    2. The Woodsmith lucky to have blanks however they are only opened I think 1 saturday a month which makes it hard for me to visit.
    3. Tried Brads Burls but still waiting for a reply

Sizes I need are within the 8-12" Diameter between 2.5-4" thick.

I have found lots of these for sale on US sites which buy them from Aus and have them shipped. I just wonder who they are.

If you can help pls post a reply.

    Thanks for reading

    Joe

Gustec has started stocking some nice timbers, but AFAIK they don't have any decent burls. At least, not as at last week. I believe that's changing though.

The Woodsmith is really a mail order specialist, but as many of us won't buy wood unseen the shop's open every Friday, 9:30-4:30. As well as the first Sat of ea. month, but only until noonish then I think. He will open at other times if you ring ahead and make arrangements.

If you do decide to drop in on him, give me some warning so I can get in first to buy what I want!

    Smile Burls

    Hi Joe,

Why not try Brads Burls, I know he is in N.S.W, and it is a min $100
order for delivery if I remember right. He has top quality burls that are brilliant to turn. www.bradsburls.com.au

Do a search of the timber and woodturning forums; suppliers have been canvassed before. Also an advanced google limiting your search to .au domains. (And beware the Vicnet woodies site; supplier list is out of date).
    Cheers, Ern

    Default Purchase Has Been Made

    Hi guys.

Thanks heaps for your time and posts.

I bought a whole heap of stuff from Gustec as per Photo. What a great bunch of people they are and what variety of stuff they have. I spoke with Paul and Roland helped me with the selection. Got to admit the service is A1+++++++ and they are opened every Saturday till 1 or 1.30 pm.

    Its worth a visit.

Gustec Wood Working Machinery has a new number - 9720 8155

If you try to ring and you can't get through because the numbers changed just call Telstra on 1223 and ask for Gustec Wood Working Machinery.

Thanks for putting me on to these guys.

    Thanks Again

    Joe

Looks like a nice selection! They didn't have any burl last time I dropped in, but methinks a visit is due very soon

If you don't mind my asking, roughly how much did that lot set you back? I've earmarked some cash for a chisel-mortiser but it may be converted to timber instead. After all, one has to get ones' priorities right...
