    Default Cape Lilac

Cooler weather here today - down to 25 degrees after a few days of around 40.
So I thought I'd get out into the shed and knock out a few bowls from the Cape Lilac tree in the back yard that dropped a main branch over the neighbour's fence in a storm a few months ago.
Nice timber to work with, but of course I had to overdo it on one of them and got a bit close to the mortise on the bottom. Might be able to make a small lamp shade or something out of it.

Probably the last thing I'll turn on the old lathe. Put new reeves drive pulley on the motor shaft the other day and it's running quieter now than it has since new. Time to start cleaning it up for sale to make room for the new one that should be coming sometime in the next couple of weeks.

It looks good great colour and grain structure. Oh, well funnels, yeah I have one that I did quite awhile ago and have yet to figure out what to do with it as its a Mallee burl, it happens.

Interesting I have/had small blank just big enough to make a pen holder, it so much like your Cape Lilac and I have no idea where it came from as I have never seen Cape Lilac over here in the east. The tricky part is most of my gear is still in boxes after the move, if I find will put it up here.
