    Default Rookie, willing to learn

    Hello to all.
    New to this place and was wondering where I could find references to turning speeds and wood types?

    Welcome Sniper.

    Where is Brightview btw? Oz?

    See pdf file attached for notes on the turning qualities of some popular timbers. Courtesy of Peninusla Woodturners, Vic.

    Just your encylopeadic knowledge ? Or did it stick in the mind for one of life's formative events? ;-}

    Sniper, I asked 'cos the table I posted has an Oz bias and the forum has been getting some int'l recognition lately.

    As for speeds, there are tables around, but I choose by feel. More knowledgeable turners will be able to articulate what you need to look for.

    Hei Sniper,
    Darrell Feltmate in Canada has a website with some great information:
    http://www.aroundthewoods.com/index.shtml

    That said, nothing beats hands on experience so find a wood turning club or failing that do a turning course at Tafe or Carbatec.

    Cheers

    Friends were looking at a house there.

    As far as speed goes: The rule of thumb I use is up until it vibrates and back off 1. The faster the better.
