Thread: Christmas Orders

Have been getting a lot of requests for pepper grinders lately - most people prefer a darker timber. Have been getting some salmon gum out of the wood pile and casting in resin to fill in the cracks / sap inclusions. Also was given a few large jarrah railway sleepers this week. Very clean and never used (apparently twisted and rejected). Don't appear to have been "treated" in any way. I'll cut into one of these in the next couple of days and see what the timber is like for pepper grinders.

At the moment, my lathe only runs on full speed (drive pulley on motor is damaged). OK for turning pepper grinders, but not nice at all when boring out the centres. New pulley should be here from Hare & Forbes this week, so I'll fit that and then at least be able to operate at some slower speed again when needed. Really looking forward to that new lathe ordered for January though - should make turning these things much easier.
