Christmas Gifts
Last year I turned some bowls for my wife’s siblings – this year I made some crosses.
Nothing unusual in this, but the back story is sorta like this. Years ago we bought this house off the estate of the wife’s grandmother. Since then I have restumped (using the Duragal tree!) and I kept the best of the old stumps because I knew I would do something with them sometime. Timber is timber and wood is wood, isn’t it?
So there is an emotional attachment for my wife and the in-laws to anything made from the old stumps.
This stuff has been under the house for probably more than 50 years, so it is well seasoned. Ironbark is well known for softness and workability, isn’t it? So I don’t have to tell you more experienced wood workers just how easy it was to make all of this.
Two of the crosses are replicas of a Mercy Cross. My wife is/was a Mercy trained Nursing Sister, so I wanted to do one for her, but not necessarily as a Xmas gift.
All finished with WOP.
"A".
