Can be a heart starter too, if you haven't swept the floor carefully first and disabled the smoke alarms. And some species don't scorch but start burning!

My favourite texturing tool is a wire brush on an angle grinder.

I have found that it is better to get a grinder that can be slowed down or you get ugly burn marks.

Agreed! I've used my variable speed job on the sapwood edges of slab furniture to convert chainsaw marks and so on into 'weathering and erosion' - works a treat with a bit of practice

So should we bring things to play with? I could do some small ( sized) cypress platters.

I think all the lathes were going to be in play! Always better to get your clothes full of shavings rather than just watch. Maybe we could try out Spencer in "platter turning " mode.

I meant to say not sized. I am planning on bringing three 300 to 350mm diam, turned but not finished and with the spigot on for remounting. The cypress looks pretty ordinary so we can have fun.

Oh! No! We want sized. Think there is some red gum we can butcher. (300mm? That's a plate not a platter. )

i just watched some "splatter" painting in simple plain bowls at the club tonight, a technique demonstrated at TurnFest, spectacular results. Basically building up paint volume at slow speed, then spin at high speed and stand back .

I could bring some paints down to try.
