Red face So close, yet so far away

I was green turning some Bloodwood I got the other day into bowls for drying and finish turning in the future. There was a slice left over I thought I would have a go at finish turning into a small natural endge dish/plate thingy.

I was turning with a bright light on one side as a guide to get it down to 1mm all over . I turned and wet sanded the outside with BLO to 800 grit in 30mm wide segments, so as not to put too much pressure on the joint. It looked good and uniform so I turned it over to finish the foot. I wanted a small foot to then sand away arcs and form little legs. Unfortunately whilst doing the final wet sand my concentration lapsed and I touched the outside It was about 200mm dia at the widest point.

    *wince*

Still, you were after a natural edged bowl. Just not so ragged or... so "internal."
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

What a shame Neil, A lapse in concentration is definitely something you can't afford when turning.
    Reality is no background music.

If it makes you feel any better I've trashed a nat edge bowl too almost at the end. Clipped the rim with a toolgate pin and ripped much of the bark off.

Heartbreaker...goes to show that you just can't count on some woods to not have a nervous breakdown
