Almost Complete - Warning Not A Good Result
I a couple of hours spare today so I thought I could get a bowl done.
I had some pine that was originally acquired from one of the members(Arron) of the forum. This was a big piece about 390mm in diameter.
I drilled a hole and mounted it in a screw chuck. Finished shaping the outside and turned it around to mount it in the jaws.
I was getting close to the bottom and when withdrawing the chisel I hit the side of the bowl. It bounced off the tool and the result you can see.

I collected what I found and the rest I think is in the wood chips.

Bugga all right. At least you can have a good look at how consistent you were getting with wall thickness.

Oops
That would have been a bit exciting, not good for the nerves, but the right time of year for the fireplace.
No-one hurt, just put it down to experience.

I should add that I was out of the line of fire and wearing face shield.
You should just about see the gouge in the piece that the chisel left.

I have done it as well, the last bowl I did was sold and I thought I would re Chuck it for a light skim and in a blink of an eye it's all over the shed!
I glued it back together and use it for shellac now.

I had a big mango bowl do that to me, a piece bounced off my head & ended up stuck up in the rafters.
