Toni ,
reverse chucking , means to turn the piece around in the chuck , left hand end to the right .
When you turn a bowl around after doing the outside , so that you can then turn the inside , that is reverse chucking .
With the salt & pepper shakers , that means that you drill in from both ends , to make the hollow 'pipe' .
Hope this helps .

Toni You just use an ordinary 1 inch or 25mm wood bit to drill the 215mm depth. If you mount the 38mm drill in a Jacobs chuck in the tailstock and run the lathe at its slowest when drilling you will find that the jacobs will go inside the 45mm hole that you have already drilled and reach the required depth. Also I drill the hole in the top of the main body to 38mm also and this saves buying a 35mm drill
