    Default Eccentric bowl

    G'day
I thought it was time I tried out my new extended bowl jaws.
Previously I had been limited to a maximum of about 270mm diam. by the capacity of the jaws ,but this one is about 310mm diam. by about 80mm high . Although the jaws have a capacity of over 400mm ,it is probably not practicle to go much larger . I found that when I tilted the bowl offcentre to hollow it out , the maximum speed I could turn at was about 850 rpm because of imbalance vibration .
The timber is camphor laurel and it has had about five coats of DO . The textured rim has had gold gilders wax rubbed into it then buffed .
    Comments welcome.

    Default Bowl.

    Hello Ted,
I think the recommended top speed is no more than 500-600rpm?. I use mine at that level for safety. Hope that helps, Drillit.

    Thanks for the comments.
Drillit I may have confused you .The 850 rpm I refered to , was the maximum safe speed I could run at when I was hollowing out the bowl . When I had it on the bowl jaws ,to take off the tennon , I probably was only running at about 300 rpm . Actually Vicmarc jaws are rated at 1000rpm ,it's written on the back , but I wouldn't run my modified jaws that fast .

    Ted,

what everyone else said - a very nice bowl (as usual). It is an art you have in making a reasonably simple looking bowl look so good. It is great you keep posting your work - it is inspiring.

    cheers

    Mick
