Default Excellent JIG for turning bangles or sleeves

Haven't done any turning in a while, I miss it a lot....

I saw this EXCELLENT video from Steve on how he uses a dead-simple jig to hold the inside of a hole to make a ring.

    I thought to share it.

    Thanks for sharing Woodpixel.

That style of jig can also be used as a 'pinch chuck' with the ring providing the clamping action. This was one of the few ways of holding a piece in the headstock free of the tailstock prior to the modern chuck. Make it whatever size you want...

I haven't made one of those in a very long time!

I'm a sucker for accessories and doodads.

What I really like about this one is how the clamping action is provided by pressure from the live centre.

Simple but clever. We are a bit spoiled with all the modern chucks and gismos but that shows there is still a place for a good old fashioned workaround.

I have some that are similar, only differences are that I drill and tap the headtstock end to fit the threads of my lathe and the "expanding collet" end I drill and tap for a pipe plug. The pipe plugs have tapered threads, so that expands that end.

This one is for a duck call band, I could not find a bangle mandrel. The rough sawn lines are for gipping to unscrew the mandrel when finished.
