Oh ya. I forgot to mention one detail. I used a square end chisel and buffed one side so as not to need a right and left skew. Skews are nicer to use as you tool angle to work is more at a 90 but the more tools you need to reach for and maintain in production turning the slower you are...

Gray compound on HSS is a good idea, too. I think the shape of the buffed tip is a little bit more favorable when the abrasive has the enough cutting speed- and I don't think the ultra fine buffing sticks have enough cutting speed on hard steels with a large carbide volume.
Tell me about it. I'm fortunate enough now that I work for myself and old enough not to care if anyone doesn't like it, so I've had the last week and half off trying to get ahead of the tennis elbow. My neck is good now but I used to have to wear a pneumatic traction collar often over about 10 years when the neck locked up in spasms. Spent a lot of time on my back staring at the ceiling trying to pull the vertebrae apart pumping up the collar, searching for that euphoric 'pop' n release of the disk and muscles.

Grey compound, or any compound, don't be afraid to load the buffing wheel up a lot with fresh compound. It looses its cutting ability real quick.
