    Default Hafco wl-38 problem

A friend rang to ask about a problem with the lathe in his retirement village workshop.

It's a Hafco WL-38. The swivelling headstock doesn't seem to be locking securely.

Does anyone know how these work, or what could be wrong with it?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Steve.

    Thanks Tony.

Is it a cam lock lever mechanism?

Is there some sort of positive locating device when it's aligned?

Hi Stuffy, Yes it as a cam locking mechanism,
There is some kind of locating device but it's not very accurate. you'll need to bring up the live center to get it lined up properly
    Cheers Tony.

    Thanks again, Tony.

    Shouldn't be a problem then.

I've offered to give them a few lessons, so hopefully they can get some use out of what seems to be a decent lathe. I might even convert a few to the addiction of turning. (mwah ha ha ha)

Yeah I was forever doing up mine. What it needs is a nylock nut.

Hello stuffy, as far as being a good lathe you're not wrong, had mine for 10 years and only had to change the original Vbelt with one Australian Made.
    Cheers Tony.
