    Default hardware question

The magnet trick is pretty neat.
Looks like they just drill & recess them on the rim and the underside of the lid. I'd try flexible CA or Shoe Goop.
The pivot pin is probably the trickiest part ...
just that I'm not sure what to use for the hardware.
Maybe just a thin stainless steel rod.

If you can get hold of some TIG stainless welding wire its about 2mm or so. It would make a good pin.

    Natty idea for a container.

Brass brazing filler rod would also work.

I've seen similar things done for small jewellery boxes, such as ring boxes and the like. Very nifty

If its for food stay away from brass as it has adverse reactions with many foods, thats why you don't see it it food processing plants. But other wise its a good option and probably easier to get hold off than stainless.

You can buy a cheap packet of stainless steel nails at your local hardware in a couple of different diameters. Just cut off the head and grind away the points to suit.
