I love the grain in that bowl
What did you do the texturing on the base with?It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Yea its nice wood.
The texture was done with an old steel ruler on the round end like this one.

First i put a very slight edge on the round end, Then i had to play around with the tool rest a bit because if it was to far away from the work the ruler would be pulled down into the work and just act like a scrapper.
I left the ruler without a handle as i still wanted to use it as a ruler but you could add one if you wanted.
I found the hardest part was holding the ruler hard against the tool rest as it would vibrate and make my hand feel like it had pins and needles lol

It is hard to find wood with the right grain.
