    Default Help/advice needed to turn off set chair legs

    I’ve decided to finish a few chairs I designed and made a while back for my son.
    As part of the ongoing design refinement I’ve tapered the front legs and have decided I’d like to tapet the rear also.
    Problem is I have a heap of legs already well advanced.
    A few haven’t been routed round so they are easy to glue and screw some wood onto to Centre and balance to turn the lower foot or so tapered to suit the front legs.
    The rounded ones have me stumped, I’ve included a sketch of an idea to attach a metal sleeve on the bent bit with a couple of jubilee clips, welded onto the sleeve would be another piece of tube inline with the straight part of the leg and be held in a 3 jaw chuck.
    Any thoughts ?
    Ive turned quite a bit of odd stuff so off Centre doesn’t phase me.

    Default Looks like this should work ok.

    Welded up some tube and gave it a test in the old Macson.
    Runs true enough.
    Still to slit the big tube and add the jubilee clips.
    Probably adapt an old 4 jaw chuck onto the Wadkin so I can play with any Centre offset.
    Seems like a lot of work but to my eye the tapered rear leg is worth it.
    I’d better clean up the welding bench and hook up the dusty to the Wadkin if I’m making wood dust in the metal area.

    Looks like its working good Henry .

    This is one of those things I saw twenty five years ago which really solved the
    "how did they do that " question I had on the chairs that have the turned and splayed back leg .
    I bookmarked it back then.
