    Question Long hole boring

Can anyone please tell me where to get info. on boring holes in longish spindle turnings such as lamp stands?
I've referred to several texts on woodturning but nobody seems to tell you how to do it. What is the secret or do you need a special jig?
    Thanks in anticipation,

Gday Chas,I have a book here that has a good passage on 'long hole boring ' which you may be able to access thru your library or if you wish purchase. The book,"The Manual of Woodturning" by Gordon Stokes ISBN 0 7207 0991 1.This guy goes back a few years but is pretty well thorough in his approach to the skill. If you have problems trying to access this e-mail me and I'll scan and send the pages off to you.
    Cheers

    Gooday.

Shee John I have just spent 3 hrs going through all my turning books and just found the book with it in and you come back with the ISBN and all. A bloke can't win.

Another book with it in (I think, because I have lent it to someone) is F. Pains book on turning.

You know I had a nice long reply typed up earlier today for this topic....But typical putor chucked a wobbly and wouldn't let me do anything, so I had to give up!

    Anyway in brief,

I bought a cutting tool years ago to do just this. Its fed through the tail stock thingy and the spikey thingy has a hole in it to allow the cutter to go through. The cutter is extended by adding in lengths as required... Drilling a hole lengthways through the turning... Worked great.. Still got it somewhere, but don't use it no more cause I havn't turned anything that has required this to be done to it...

Anyway,,,, sorry bout the terminology, but I'm just a lonesome polisher

    Cheers

    Shane!

Just gotta love the terminology Shane.

Kinda like me dipping the fluffy stuff into this sticky goo and rubbing it in.

Your'e talking my language Shane. Been scratching my head all day trying to work out how to put the L.H.boring technique into words that could be understood by me, let alone anyone else. Good-on-ya!

By the way Neil, could you please explain to one forgetful old fart how to get those live smilies scattered through your posts. I know you have told us once already and the instructions are lurking soemwhere on the bulletin board, but I'm blowed if I can find them.
    Thanks & Regards. John H

Hey Shane, there's a word that aptly describes lonesome polishers but I won't use it here.

I like the input you have too much to resort to that sort of language!
