    Default Hollow form project

    My latest hollow forming project burled apple wood with spalting finial is holm oak, finial base is rimu which has been friction polished with a d.i.y version of ob shine juice the hollowing tool is a mini munro owen bend

    That burl looks rock hard, finished up great
    Was it hard to turn?

    It wasn't too bad but it was also my first time working with a burl ( and I have more of this apple wood with burls and from the same tree) there was a bit of punky wood that caused a few headaches I just made damned sure my gouges (woodcut brand) were freshly sharpened for roughing out and shaping the outside for the hollowing I used the Munro Minimum6 owen bend hollowing tool (shown in photo) absolutely magic to use most of my finish came from using a negative rake scraper to get rid of the torn grain and chisel marks but I also used some tripoli buffing compund with a sisal buffing wheel attached to my cordless drill after doing a final sand with my random orbital sander which I use with the lathe going
