    Default Hot Glue Gun

I think my cheapo glue gun doesn't heat the glue up enough. Can anyone recommend a hot glue gun that really gets the glue nice and hot and is available in oz? Cord or cordless it don't matter

Just a thought, but mine (also a cheapy) takes ages to heat up. I reckon it needs a good few minutes to really get up to temperature, until that time it is possible to squeeze glue through, but it's not really hot enough. Also remember that just like oils, hot glues ain't hot glues. There's various types (have a look at Hot Melt Adhesives | Glue Sticks | Hot Melt Dispensing Equipment – Hotmelt.com) so perhaps the sticks you have are partly to blame?

For craft use there are basically high and low temperature guns and glue sticks.

Some guns do both high and low temperature.

Most people find a 25W guns fast enough but higher wattage usually means faster heating time - look for a 40 or 50W gun.

The Bosch gun used by Warrick looks like a beauty costs $49 and uses high power to warm up and then switches to lower power for glue delivery.

Here's a review of a few guns Best glue gun 2020: red hot, sticky action with the best glue guns for hobbies and repairs | T3
It looks like it's sponsored by Amazon so take all info with some grins of salt - but it does take about the bosch unit I mention above.

I have a cheap Craftsman that I bought many years ago but don't use it often.
SWMBO's pink girlie gun she bought at Spotlight heats up faster than the Craftsman.

Regardless of how good your gun is in cold weather you are putting glue on to a cold surface. Pre heat with a hot air gun first. Also surface prep like for any other glue job as grease and dust do not help things stick. My hotmelt gun was just a cheap thing from the green shed but its been doing the job for many years now. It does take a while to heat up and I wait to see it drip from the front before using. It likely take 5 mins or so. If or when it dies then the Bosch is a contender.

Just reading up on this one, do you use only Bosch brand glue sticks?

    Hi brainstrust

As I use Ryobi 18v for a lot of basic tools and my gardening stuff (not because the best but because it does the job and replacements are easy), I picked up the Ryobi 18v hot glue gun. It takes a long time to heat up but does the job.

Yeah it's annoying waiting 30 seconds to heat up... but so is scrabbling for a power cord, then putting it away afterwards. There is a reason no-one uses cordless drills anymore for regular stuff.

You're not using hot glue guns for fine furniture or permanent builds but usually as mooshy two-sided tape after all.

My son got mine from Bunnies but it seems they don't sell them any more
Home Hardware have them and they have a store in Mitchel

I like the idea of a cordless glue gun. Invariably when I try to put it down between uses, the cord pushes it over and it dribbles glue all over the table. Cordless will have a bit of weight from the battery and will stand much easier.

I see Bosch do a cordless one - roughly double the price of their corded one. They quote 15 seconds to heat up.
