Default Huon Pine bowl / platter

Was given a rather ugly and very aged piece of Huon a little while back. It had some natural edge that I kept as best I could and some sawn edge that I textured for a softer look,
Diameter is about 380mm and depth about 60mm. Sanded to 1000 grit, polished with EEE and finished with Ubueat traditional wax.
I wouldn't normally use wax on Huon as the natural oils can affect the wax finish but I wanted to keep the natural colours with a mat finish. As this piece of wood appeared quite old and weathered and I figured that there wouldn't be much of the natural oil remaining so took the risk. It's been sitting in the house for a few months now with no softening of the wax finish

The rim of the bowl is about 12 mm thick. I felt that the natural edge looked pretty cool and wanted to retain as much of it as possible. Turned as much of the underside as I could on the lathe then finished with hand tools.

Very nice. Reminds me that I still have a large slab of huon pine that I picked up from the sawmill in Strahan a few years back. Haven't been able to decide what to do with it. It is not thick enough to do something similar to what you have turned - perhaps a clock face.

    Very nice.
I've only had/used the more basic form but it is up there with my favs. Such a creamy light feel, luv it

I have a chunk but I'm waiting till I master my bowl saver so I can get more out of it.
