    Default Hyco Lathes

I have three lathes in the woodwoork room at school,
    all aging and different makes!

All are missing bits, mainly the covers on their belt drives.

I can track down 2 makers but does anyone have any info on HYCO lathes.
    Anyone ever heard of them?
    Does the company still exist?
    Can I get parts?

Thanks in advance for any help you can send my way.

    Chris

    Default Hyco

Hi, I have a Hyco which I scored from a Tech Studies department.

They were bought out I believe by Woodfast who then continued to produce the same designed lathe with Woodfast badging.

I could be wrong, but this is how I recall being told the story.

    Found this pic on Ebay.

A belt cover should not be so hard to make.

Righto. Sheet metal or plywood would work. I made one of hardware cloth (not chicken wire) for a small concrete mixer.

I agree that belt covers should be easy to make,
but I am hamstrung by rules that say I have to use the correct part whenever possible.

Imagine the scenario that a kid gets her hand caught in the belt drive because the fence I made wasn't the same quality as the one Hyco/Woodfast makes. I am trying to source the correct part, I think if I cannot find the correct part I am OK to make a new one.
To give you an idea of the rules I just got handed 100 pages of OH&S stuff!
Vast majority are common sense but limiting for the kids.

Give woodfast a call I don't like your chances they are faily old models, but you'll never know if you don't ask Woodfast Machinery Co. (Aust.) Pty. Ltd. -
