VLs do have high resale values and for that reason they're slow to sell 2nd hand. Irish logic? Yep. I've been there.
A pro will buy a good lathe new cos it's a deductible.
A keen amateur with an eye to value will look at the several brands locally badged but made in Taiwan or China with good specs that are available new at far fewer dollars.Cheers, Ern

Just to add, the lathe quoted in the OP quote looks like a well-priced unit. But add c. $550 for the outrigger for outboard work to turn big pieces.
And as a BTW, I'm on my 2nd VL175. The quality of VM stuff is outstanding esp. if you expect to do a deal of long hole boring. No slop, no messing around to correct for poor machining.Cheers, Ern
