    Wink lathe problems. advise please

    Hi all
I have a woodfast lathe. Recently I am unable to lock the toolrest on the lathe bed. The mechanism has a springy spongy feel and there is no positive lock. I have tried adjusting the nut underneath, but can't figure out if I should tiggten or loosen
    Any comments welcome
    Thank u

There could be a build up of muck on the bar under the banjo.

Take the whole banjo of the lathe and clean all the parts even take apart if possible.
