lathe thread size
Hi everybody
First time poster but long term lurker.
I'm looking to buy a jaw chuck for my lathe from Carba-tec but I need to know the thread size and spindle diameter.
The diameter is easy enough, but how do I find out the thread size?
Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Not knowing your lathe I doubt anyone can help you. The best is to look at any documents that came with your lathe, next look at the lathe retailers or manufacturers on the web or maybe post some pictures as someone may have the one you have.

The Thread.
Hi MRNey,
The way I have done it before is to Grab a Rule, Measure over 1 inch of the thread.
Count the number of high parts of the thread, eg. count 9, drop one, leaves 8 TPI, & that would be Whitworth.
If you Lathe is a recent one, it could be 30 x 3.5 in the Metric form.
30 x 3.5 is very common these days.Regards,
issatree.

David L, a member here, was trying to sell one last year. See link here.
Maybe a pm to him will give you the answer.

The GMC's are 3/4" x 16tpi (at least, mine is).

This link may help you identify the thread. It mentions Carba-tec as 3/4 x 16tpi as indicated by dikman. That's where you said it came from at the start of the thread.

The Thread.
Hi Gloria.
I was just guessing with the sizes I named, as I assumed it was a different Lathe.
I agree with T/C & others, on 3/4in. x 16TPIRegards,
issatree.
