New to me Leady Lathe
Hi everyone,
So I'm a complete novice in woodturning but eager to have a go.
I have recently bought a Leady lathe for bargain and would love some help in working out this magnificent beast.

It seems the chuck is stuck, any tips to break it loose?

Also this bit seem like a brake but doesn't slide all the way home as the small pin at 12oclock is being blocked?

Also what is this tool for?

Thanks in advance and I am looking forward to being part of this community.
Thanks

Hi Myosi.
I have had mine for about 17 years and still happy with it
The chuck will turn off in an anticlockwise directuon. Give the thread a good squirt of WD 40 or similar and let it soak in. That tool looks like it may be one of the chuck spanners but I have no experience with those old chucks. Another way to free a stuck chuck is clamp a long bit of wood in the chuck jaws sticking out sideways and use that as a lever to unwind the chuck. Sometimes a short sharp tap with a hammer to get things started. The second pic shows the indexing pin that locks into the indexing ring (pic 3) That locks the spindle in set positions so you can do things like say position numbers on a clock face or mark equally spaced positions around a work piece.
Enjoy the lathe as its a good one.
Regards
John

Scroll chuck removal
1. The hex section is the chuck insert that adapts the scroll chuck to the thread of your headstock. Use your large open end hex spanner and slog it downwards whilst holding the outboard end of the headstock spindle (LHS); the chuck unscrews anti-clockwise.
2. The indexing head has a spring loaded pin. Pull the round knurled handle outwards and rotate it until the pin engages the index hole/s in the pulley (never leave it engaged with motor 'on' obviously). May need some WD40 to ease it out if rusty.
3. The 'tool' is the locking bar for the scroll chuck
Cheers
