Looks like another bottler Melb turning BBQ Looks like a good crowd, how many all up?
Shame I couldn't be there
Hopefully our Qld BBQ next weekend will be as good, although the demonstrator is a bit rough and will only have a small Woodfast to demo on .
Only if I'm not thereNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

I've also enjoyed the day tremendously. I learned a lot from all the demos and presentations, got to put faces to a lot of names and met new people, got some timber and a lot of mags to learn from and be inspired even more.
Thanks everybody and especially Greg and his whole family for hosting this marvellous event.
Peter.

Groggy, a big thank you, to you and your family for hosting the get together.
It was a fun day, and gave us all a chance to catch up and put more faces to names.
A special thank you to Joe, for transporting me too and from the get together.Ken Wraight.

Another big thank you to Groggy and all those who demonstrated and spoke.
As usual, a great day, you always come away with a few new ideas to try. Also thank you to those who brought the timber give aways and magazines. Already looking forward to the next get together.

We've been home a while. Time enough to get the A/C going and a little turning done.
That what happens when you go to the Vic. Chapter of the forum get-togethers.
Other States take note.
As all have said, thanks to our hosts.
And all the demonstrators. Particularly Ken and (the "pros" who do it all for nothing). And it was also great to see Jim C present, just to keep them both honest.
Calm (DJ right behind him), GJ (under expert guidance) and Ern also did very, very well.
IMHO, we need to access Club facilities when we start talking 20+ attendees. More lathes, more space and a more even share of the workload. And 's place (out of the way, few decent "small" lathes isn't always the last resort option.) And it is now a bugger get to and from Tooradin on the Toll roads...... Up and back on the Westgate Bridge just to get onto the Bolte Bridge......
Sure, it's nice to host but these events are getting bigger and bigger. I love getting out into other sheds and taking a beak. But when we have a big one, I think we need more room. This was a big one.
All up to you guys and gals. I travel further than most if not all of you so I reckon MTBW is worth that and maybe more.
Great turning and more importantly, fellowship.
See you all next time.

Thanks Greg and Family i very much appreciated the day and hospitality.
Thanks also to the "givers" of kind words regarding my demo. - maybe i will do it again somewhere or might go for the inside out turning thingy next time. Others should have a go the hecklers just add to the atmosphere, remember it is your demo done your way, there probably are others ways to do it but you are demo'ing your way..
As for more or less lathes - it needs to be determined what sort of a BBQ/gettogether/training/demo/instruction/participation event it is. This has come up before so i will give MY opinion.
The week at Keiwa required many lathes as turning was the event/purpose
As for most of the ones i have been to in Melbourne they have been BBQ.s - socialising and demonstration events - at these it is just plain bad manners for someone to be using a lathe making noise while someone else has given their time and effort to show the group something they have learnt - regardless of whether you are interested in the demo or not, others are that is why it is on - part of the agenda for the day.
So if you have demonstrations (to a group) one or two lathes are enough, if you are having instruction (individual assistance at lathe, singular or very small group) then you need plenty of lathes and also plenty of instructors - BUT as it became apparent on Sunday with the short "Sheer Scraping" demo different "instructors" may have a different "interpretation" of the process.
But as for Groggy's i think one lathe was plenty even though DJ did bring his small one and was hardly used. So thanks for the effort DJ.
Thanks all for a great day and especially to greg for the shorter travel distance
Cheersregards

We didn't get on to finishes as planned though. Just as well - GJ's wobbly work was far more interesting, and 'which finish and how?' could easily take up half a day of
argumentpolite exchanges of considered views
I had brought along copies of info on a Danish Oil test; anyone who attended and wants a scanned version should PM me your email address.Cheers, Ern
