It is almost as thought they have too much offset on the cam that does the locking and if not adjusted correctly will not not fully lock.
Back off the nut until you can rotate the locking lever past centre with a bit of resistance, as it goes past. Release the handle and then tighten up the nut in small increments testing the lock after each adjustment. As Paul says, a half turn will probably do it, or maybe even less. Once the correct position is found, the nut needs to have some form of locking medium on it so that over time it won't vibrate undone and go out of adjustment.
Maybe this is why the washer on the tailstock was jammed and damaged. Someone may have applied excess force to the lever to try to get it to lock properly. I hope no one has bent the shafts by applying excess force.
I Haven't had any problems with mine, as I set the lathe exactly this way when a bought it from Jim Carrolls. Very happy with Mine.

    Cheers Tony

    Default This heap of Crap.

Hi to you all who tried to help,
As far as I'm concerned, this heap of crap can sit in it's corner till it rusts away. Did everything everybody suggested, & it still comes loose
( Now some of you know, why I wanted to use My Ledacraft, at a recent Show.)
    Regards,
    issatree.

    Issatree,

Not from me. You may have a lemon. It may be that the lathe is not up to what you ask of it.

Some one else may be perfectly happy with it. You may want to offer it for sale, with full disclosure of its shortcomings and get part of your money back.

I have lived above my means for years by rescuing things left out for the trash or buying machines thought to be unusable and making them work to my satisfaction.

My latest a 20 inch band saw bought for 20 cents a pound - double scrap price. See below.

Maybe you should bring it back with you and I will have a look to see if it can be rescued. If not I might buy it off you at Paul's suggested price
