Default Mortar with a twist or should I say split

Here is a new piece, soon to be mortar. The timber is the other end of (the salt pot) piece, but with splits so I am used forstner bits to drill out the split, I have glued in some twigs and will fill in with resin. It’s a WIP so stay tuned (I got the idea from the interwebs)

One step further this morning, it might turn out a bit dark but who knows.

So the resin was cast, the walls came down and the turning began.

    All going well

And then, it all went pear shaped. I had a catch.

    but then we recovered.

    for all but a minute.

but this time the pieces disappeared somewhere. But we recovered and turned it into a smaller bowl. So from mortar to ring bowl.

Tony, thank you for your kind words, but credit where credit is due, I’ll accept credit for recovering from the disaster, but that’s about it, I’m as mortal as you are. And this was funnily enough a test piece as my first time casting.

i don’t like failure but I’m also quite tight so don’t like spending a lot of money on expensive gear to gain the same result ie pressure pots/ vacuum pots etc so I found an alternative which is a deep pour casting resin and was $66 from memory. A small price to pay to get me into casting resins. Here is what I used from Barnes
