Default a small natural edge, spalted Silver Poplar bowl

    Hi all,

I've just finished a small natural edge bowl in spalted Silver Poplar (the actual bowl is about 14cm in diameter).
Turning it was quite demanding, the wood was so soft and I really didn't want to lose the branch at one corner. It is done and I'm quite happy with it.
I have only 2 more blanks of that spalted wood, and I'd appreciate comments and critiques.

    Cheers,
    Fryers

There certainly would have been a big "pucker factor" doing that bowl. Congratulations.
My only criticism would be the foot. I think it would have looked better with just a small bead foot.
But it is only my opinion.
    Otherwise a great job.

    Thanks Lyle,
I agree with your comment about the foot, because the wood was so soft I felt I had to retain a heavy foot to secure the piece in the chuck, and then had nothing to hold on to at the top in order to finish the foot.

    Poplar sure does spalter well
I'm undecided, one thought is it looks like a broken dug up ancient artefact. Then I think it just looks broken and would be better without those even rims.
Either way I luv the wood, nice job

Thanks for your thoughts. I felt there was some conflict in the bowl, but couldn't put my finger on it. Your comments rang true and this is what it looks like after a bit of shaving.
