    Question newbie

    Hi,
I did a fair bit of turning 30 years or so ago and now and now I am getting back into it and I have noticed that there has been a lot of changes.
I am curious about turning green timber, and from my research, overseas turners rough turn and then drop the bowl etc in PEG or polyethylene glycol.
Has anybody got any experience in turning gren timber? I am not really happy with the idea of working with PEG, so is there any substitutes out there?
It seems from the MSDS that its not so toxic, but I kinda like to work with all chemicals at a arms distance or greater if possible.

Hi hughie, welcome to the madhouse.

Have you done a search of the forum on green turning? A lot's been posted already.
    Cheers, Ern

    Hughie,

There is an alternative to PEG, it is LDD - Liquid Dishwashing Detergent.
Volumes have been written in the rec.crafts.woodturning news group.

Here is a link to get you going

    LDD

For even more info try a search for LDD.

Growing old is much better than the alternative!
